Cryotherapy / Cryo Pairing

Overview

Cryotherapy (also known as cryo surgery or cryo pairing) is a safe, effective treatment that uses controlled extreme cold to remove unwanted or abnormal skin lesions. The freezing temperature destroys targeted cells while keeping the surrounding skin intact. It is commonly used for warts, skin tags, corns, benign growths, and certain precancerous lesions.

Cryotherapy is quick, minimally invasive, and requires very little downtime, making it an ideal solution for patients looking for correction with minimal discomfort.

Uses of Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is highly effective for treating:

  • Warts (common, plantar, flat)
  • Skin tags
  • Seborrheic keratosis
  • Corns and calluses
  • Benign skin growths
  • Precancerous lesions (such as Actinic Keratosis)
  • Molluscum contagiosum
How it Works

Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen at extremely low temperatures to freeze and destroy unwanted tissue.

At Neotis, we follow a controlled protocol:

  • Application: Liquid nitrogen is applied precisely using a spray or cotton-tipped applicator.
  • Freeze–Thaw Cycle: The lesion is rapidly frozen and allowed to thaw. Some cases require multiple cycles in the same session.
  • Cell Destruction: The cold temperature causes targeted cells to break down while sparing healthy skin around them.
  • Healing: Over the next few days, the treated area may form a blister or scab, which naturally falls off to reveal fresh, healthier skin.

The treatment is simple, hygienic, and highly targeted.

What to Expect Before & After Cryotherapy

Most patients tolerate cryotherapy well, with minimal discomfort.

Before the Treatment

  • No special preparation is usually needed.
  • If treating a painful corn or callus, soaking the area beforehand may help.
  • Avoid applying active ingredients (retinoids, exfoliants) on the area on the day of treatment.

After the Treatment

  • Mild redness, swelling, or a small blister may form — this is expected.
  • Scabs usually fall away in 7–14 days, depending on the area treated.
  • Keep the area clean and avoid picking at the scab to prevent scarring or infection.
  • Use sunscreen on exposed areas to avoid pigmentation changes.
  • Follow-up may be recommended if the lesion is deep or recurrent.
Important Notes
  • Cryotherapy may cause temporary skin lightening or darkening, especially in darker skin types.
  • Not recommended for people with extremely cold-sensitive skin conditions or poor wound healing.
  • Large or stubborn lesions may require multiple sessions.
  • Always consult a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis before treatment.
