MOLES
What is it?
Moles or Nevi are common skin growths ranging in colour from natural skin tone to brown or black. They can be present from childhood or develop later in life.
Who gets moles?
- Most moles appear in early childhood or before the age of 20.
- Adults typically have 10–40 moles, although some may develop later in life.
- Over time, moles may change, becoming raised, lighter in colour, or developing hair.
What do you see?
- Small, dark to skin – coloured flat or raised lesions.
- Found anywhere on the body.
- Changes such as bleeding, oozing, itching, tenderness or sudden change in size and colour warrant a dermatologist’s attention.
Treatment
- Radio frequency removal.
- Punch excision.
- Elliptical excision.
- Laser therapies.
WARTS
What is it?
Warts are small, rough skin lumps caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). They’re contagious and easily passed between individuals.
What do you see?
- Common warts: Raised, skin-coloured lesions.
- Plantar warts: Raised or flat lesions on the feet.
- Plane warts: Flat, dark-to-skin-coloured lesions.
- Filiform warts: Narrow, bushy projections.
- Periungual warts: Found around nails.
- Genital warts: Flat-to-raised lesions on genital areas.
Treatment
- Radio frequency.
- Cryotherapy.
- Intralesional injections.
- Autoinoculation.
- Immune modulatory drugs.
SKIN TAGS
What is it?
Skin tags are harmless, soft growths that hang off the skin, often appearing flesh-coloured or slightly darker.
What do you see?
- Projections of smooth or irregular skin attached by a stalk.
- Commonly found on the eyelids, neck, underarms, groin, and under breasts.
- Typically painless but may itch or become irritated.
Treatment
- Radio frequency removal.
- Surgical excision.
- Cryotherapy.
- CO2 laser ablation.
Other Skin Lesions
Lesions like seborrheic keratosis, milia, and pyogenic granulomas can also occur on the face, head, neck, and other body parts. They are removable using methods such as radio frequency, excision, or cryotherapy.
