HIFU (High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound)
What is it?
HIFU is a non-surgical, ultrasound-based skin lifting and tightening treatment that targets deep layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production. Designed to lift sagging skin, define facial contours, and reduce fine lines. HIFU works beneath the surface without damaging the outer skin layer. It provides a noticeable lift with long-lasting results — all without needles, downtime, or surgery.
By delivering precise ultrasound energy into the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) layer — the same layer tightened during surgical facelifts — HIFU naturally rebuilds structure, firmness, and elasticity. Over the following weeks, new collagen forms, gradually tightening and rejuvenating your skin.
Uses of HIFU
- Facial lifting and tightening
- Jawline contouring
- Brow lifting
- Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
- Diminishing double chin
- Improving skin elasticity
- Neck tightening and smoothing
- Overall facial rejuvenation
How it Works
HIFU uses focused ultrasound waves to heat targeted layers of tissue beneath the skin surface. This controlled thermal energy initiates a natural regenerative process
- Thermal Coagulation: Ultrasound energy creates precise micro-injuries in deeper skin layers (SMAS, dermis), triggering collagen renewal.
- Collagen Stimulation: Over the next 6–12 weeks, new collagen fibres form, tightening and lifting the treated area.
- Targeted Depths: At Neotis, we use clinically approved HIFU devices that work at multiple depths (1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 4.5 mm), ensuring personalised treatment tailored to your skin’s needs.
The result is a subtle, natural-looking lift — without disrupting the surface of the skin.
What to Expect Before & After HIFU
HIFU is a comfortable and effective treatment with little to no downtime.
Before:
- Mild warmth or tingling may be felt as the ultrasound energy is delivered.
- A topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort, depending on sensitivity.
After:
- Slight redness or puffiness may occur and typically subsides within a few hours.
- You can resume normal activities immediately.
- Results develop gradually, with lifting and tightening improving over 8–12 weeks.
- Optimal results are seen at 3 months, with effects lasting 9–18 months depending on age and collagen quality.
Important Notes
Skin Suitability:
- HIFU is ideal for mild to moderate skin laxity. It may not be suitable for severe sagging or very thin skin.
Post-Treatment Care:
- Avoid hot showers, steam, or intense workouts for 24 hours. Always use sunscreen to protect the treated area.
Consultation:
- A thorough assessment by our dermatologists will determine whether HIFU is the best choice or if alternative lifting treatments (such as RF Microneedling or Threads) would be more effective for your concerns.
