ROSACEA
What is it?
Rosacea is a common skin condition that typically starts with increased sensitivity, leading to blushing or flushing of the skin. Over time, this redness may become persistent, spreading from the nose and cheeks to other parts of the face, such as the forehead, chin, ears, chest, and back. If untreated, it can result in permanent redness in the central areas of the face.
Who gets rosacea?
Rosacea is prevalent in:
- People aged 30–50 years.
- Fair-skinned individuals, often with blonde hair and blue eyes.
- Those of Celtic or Scandinavian descent.
- Individuals with a family history of rosacea or severe acne.
- People who have experienced cystic or nodular acne in the past.
Treatment
- Preventive measures: Daily use of sunscreen can minimize flare-ups.
- Skin care: Emollients to repair and protect the skin barrier.
- Medication: Topical antibiotics or oral antibiotics for more severe cases.
- Advanced treatments: Lasers and light-based therapies for persistent redness and broken blood vessels.
